60th Anniversary Conference – “Law Reform: Shaping Society?”
15 Apr 2025
This year is the 60th anniversary of the Scottish Law Commission. Since its establishment by the Law Commissions Act 1965, the Commission has sought to perform an integral role in ensuring Scots Law effectively meets society’s needs.
The Commission is holding a hybrid conference on Friday 13th June 2025 to reflect on “Law Reform: Shaping Society?”.
The keynote speaker is Lord Hodge, Deputy President of the UK Supreme Court. He will be joined by:
• Lady Wise, President of Scottish Tribunals and Senator of the College of Justice
• Dr Alisdair MacPherson, University of Aberdeen
• Professor James Lee, King’s College London.
This will be a unique and timely opportunity to engage in a fascinating reflection on the value of law reform in Scotland, the challenges as the Commission looks to the future, and an opportunity to network with others who have shared interests.
The conference will be hosted in the University of Edinburgh Law School. Limited in-person places are available. Tea, coffee, and pastries will be provided. The conference will also be available for online attendance. The Commission welcomes attendance from anyone with an interest in Scots Law, legal reform or who wishes to gain a greater insight into the Commission’s work and it’s future.
Attendance is free but ticketed, and can be booked in advance:

The conference qualifies for 2 hours of CPD for the Law Society of Scotland.
